CIDG files criminal cases against Kato, BIFF members


The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has filed criminal cases against commander Ustadz Ameril Umbra Kato and other members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

Police Director Samuel D. Pagdilao, Jr., CIDG chief, said the case filed against Kato and BIFF members at the Maguindanao Provincial Prosecutor's Office with NPS Docket# XIV-05-INV-121-00190 will allow the CIDG to pursue them with the full force of the law behind it.

"We filed cases of multiple murder, multiple frustrated murder, multiple attempted murder, kidnapping, and robbery with homicide against Kato and his followers in connection with the atrocities they committed in Mindanao," he said.

The cases filed against Kato and his followers were borne out of an investigation conducted by the CIDG on a series of a attacks perpetrated by the BIFF against government troops and civilians in Maguindanao.

The group had stormed an Army and paramilitary installations in Maguindanao's five adjoining towns last August 5.

Besides Kato, the CIDG filed cases against BIFF officers Muhammad Ali Tambako, Badrudin Silongan, Kagi Karialan, Abu Missry and 109 other members of the group.

Several John Does connected to the group were also included in the CIDG's case build up against the BIFF.
