Former Rebel in Paquibato Benefits from Gun for Peace Cash Assistance

Brgy Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao City – Former NPA rebel receives 30,000 Pesos as part of the AFP's Guns for Peace Program, in Paquibato District last August 12, 2013.
A milestone in the AFPs Guns for Peace Program as Tony Ingay, a former member of the Pulang Bagani Company under the command of Leoncio Pitao operating in the hinterlands of Paquibato District, Davao City. On his message of gratitude, Mr. Ingay have told his constituents the circumstances of his surrender and how 69th Infantry Battalion have helped him to start a new life far from the worries of being haunted by the law. He said that the soldiers have been true to its mandate to respect the Human Rights of every individual either civilians or former combatants. He assured that the cash assistance he received will be spent wisely for his livelihood. He told that he will start his own backyard piggery in which will not help his own family but rather his lumad brothers in So. Malamboon, BrgyMalabog, Paquibato District, Davao City. In his parting words, he encourages former rebels to surrender and avail the gun for peace program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Accordingly, many have wanted to surrender their firearms yet felt hesitant that the government will fail to fulfill its promise to grant assistance to those who wanted to start a new life. Every firearm has an equivalent value depending on the serviceability and caliber of the firearms.
LTC INOCENCIO I PASAPOTE, Commanding Officer of 69IB, congratulated Mr. Tony Ingay for his moral courage to stand to what he thinks best for himself and his family. He urges other members to the New People's Army to withdraw their support to the Communist Movement on armed struggle and return to the mean stream of the society. Armed struggle was not the ultimate solution to their problems. COL BUENAVENTURA PASCUAL, Commander of 1003rd Infantry Brigade, assured the residents of Paquibato District, Davao City that he and his subordinates will adhere to the provisions on the respect of Human Rights and will always open its doors to those who wish to return to the folds of law. He said that like Mr Tony Ingay, they shall be treated well and he will be assisted to avail the Comprehensive Localize Integration Program.
The awarding ceremony was held during the commemoration program of the International Humanitarian Law Month conducted at Brgy Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao City last August 12, 2013 at about 10 o'clock in the morning.
