4ID Intensifies Anti-Insurgency Operations

CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City ─ The Army’s 4th Infantry Division continues to intensify its anti-insurgency operations to limit the atrocities of the NPAs in the area.
Several encounters took place this month. In the early morning of September 10, 2013, elements of the 29th Infantry Battalion clashed with more or less 15 NPAs in Brgy Tungao, Butuan City. Troops from the 36th Infantry Battalion also encountered more or less 30 NPAs in San Miguel, Surigao del Sur late in the afternoon of the same day.
On September 11, elements of the 30th Infantry Battalion fought with more or less 20 NPAs in Alegria, Surigao del Norte. Two days after, elements of the 26th Infantry Battalion encountered more or less 10 NPAs at Loreto, Agusan del Sur.
On September 20, troops belonging to the 30th Infantry Battalion clashed with more or less 20 NPAs in Sison, Surigao del Norte, while on September 22, elements of 8th Infantry Battalion exchanged gunfight with more or less 5 NPAs at Brgy Busdi, Malaybalay City.
As a result of these firefights, four NPA rebels were killed. The Diamond troopers were able to recover five M16 rifles, three AK47 rifles, six rifle grenades, one Improvised Explosive Device, four handheld radios, two medical kits, 10 dry cell batteries and subversive documents.
Likewise, due to the pressure of the different encounters and the hardship of living in the mountains, eight former rebels surrendered to different units of 4th ID bringing along with them two M14 rifles, four M16 rifles, two carbine and three AK47 rifles.
During an offensive operation launched by the NPAs in Brgy Kibanban, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental, one soldier and four Cafgu Active Auxiliary members were killed. This incident did not hinder the troops in protecting the communities against NPA atrocities.
Meanwhile, 4ID through elements of 58th Infantry Battalion were sent to conduct pursuit operations against the perpetrators.
“The NPA resorted to threat and intimidation to regain/recover lost ground brought about by their atrocities and abuses. The success of these encounters was made possible by the information valiantly given by peace-loving concerned citizen,” BGen Ricardo R Visaya, Commander of 4th ID, said.
“Thank you for your continuous support in our military operations, your clamor for a peaceful community will be 4ID’s battle cry. We will continue protecting and serving you even if this means our lives. To the NPAs, let our countrymen live freely and peacefully, cease from pestering them! They already have enough sufferings. We are open for those who want to lay down their arms. However, for those who want to stay in the armed struggle, you will continue to live a miserable life and suffer the consequences of living your lives in fear,” BGen Visaya added.
