3 NPA killed in Davao Oriental

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - Three (3) NPA members were killed in a clash with government troops in Sitio Matabang, Brgy. Taocanga, Manay, Davao Oriental at around 8:30 a.m., January 29. The soldiers recovered 2 M16; 1 AK47; 1 M4 rifles, 3 landmines, 1 cellphone and documents from the NPAs. One wounded NPA was also captured while 1 soldier was killed in action.
The civilians in the barangay reported the presence of the NPA who were accordingly starting to extort from them. The civilians revealed that they do not want the NPA anymore in their place. “They are a hindrance to our community development”. A civilian said.
67th IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Krishnamurti A. Mortela said that the criminal group is attempting to recover their former stronghold that were liberated from the NPA clutches in 2012 but the populace are already resisting them.
Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III praised the soldiers of 67th IB for securing the communities from the NPA extortion. He further reminded all military units in the area to undertake joint operations with the PNP. “Coordination among units for augmentation of forces is mandatory”. Lt. Gen. Cruz said.
