Paquibato, Peaceful Commemorates 116th Phil Independence

NSFA, Panacan, Davao City - The people of Paquibato District, Davao City headed by its officials and Indigenous Peoples “Lumad” (IP) leaders of the 13 Barangays will commemorate the 116th Philippine Independence day with the city government led by City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte; the AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista; Eastern Mindanao Command Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III; 10th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Ariel B. Bernardo; and PNP counterparts headed by Police Chief Supt. Wendy Garcia Rosario during the flag raising ceremony jibe with the culmination of week-long peace outreach mission by the Association of Regional Executives of National Agency (ARENA) XI and other partner organizations dubbed as “Unity for Peace in Paquibato” on June 12, 2014.
The said district will also be declared peaceful and development ready by the local and city officials on the same day. Different city dignitaries are invited to deliver needed basic services as a jumpstart development in the said district.
The peace outreach activities include: Interfaith Prayer; Multi-stakeholder “Serbisyo Caravan”; Bike for Peace; Unveiling of Peace Monument; Ground Breaking of Joint AFP-PNP Action Center (JAPAC) Facility; Presentation of Former Rebels (FRs); Signing of Covenant for Peace and Development; and “Concert for Peace”.
A month ago, the residents, officials and IP leaders denounced support to the CPP-NPA during a peace rally in Poblacion Paquibato after realizing the need for a genuine development. Local officials and various partner organizations committed to undertake and sustain developmental activities and projects in the area.
Eastern Mindanao Command will also participate and send wreath laying contingent to Rizal Park, Davao City for the same event with government officials, PNP and other civilian stakeholders.
Paquibato district is situated 50 kilometers north of Davao City and comprised of 13 barangays with a population of 38,266. It is known to be the areas abused and exploited by the CPP-NPA long ago.
Meanwhile, EASTMINCOM Commander Lt. Gen. Ricardo Rainier G. Cruz III reminded all military unit commanders to engage closely the local populace, officials, IP Leaders, PNP and other partner organizations. “This is Bayanihan, a convergence of multi-stakeholders for community development” Lt. Gen. Cruz said.
