AFP, PNP Arrest Ranking NPA Leader in Iloilo City

From the Website of AFP

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – Joint operatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) arrested yesterday a ranking New People’s Army (NPA) leader in Iloilo City.
Eduardo Almores Esteban with aliases ‘Bonnie’, ‘Benny’ and ‘Pilo’ was arrested early morning yesterday in Brgy. Buntala, Jaro, Iloilo City by virtue of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 2, Bangued, Abra.
Esteban is the Director of the Communication Bureau of the Central Committee of the CPP-NPA. He was the former Secretary of the Ilocos Cordillera Regional Party Committee of the CPP-NPA.
His arrest will pose a great blow to the CPP-NPA whose leadership has been successively arrested after the capture of the Tiamzon couple last March.
The ranking NPA leader reportedly owns and supervises several businesses in the city while his comrades are still in the mountains living a life full of hardships, and being misled to the violent path.
AFP Chief of Staff General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. congratulated Brig. Gen. Arnold Quiapo of the Philippine Army’s 301st Brigade, who supervised the serving of the arrest warrant; and, the operatives of AFP Intelligence Service and PNP who painstakingly pursued the leads for months leading to the arrest.
The operation is in line with General Catapang’s instruction to finish-off insurgency and claim the peace in rural communities to achieve progress and prosperity.
The arrested NPA leader is now on the way to Bangued, Abra to face charges.
