Thousands march for peace in Zamboanga City

The international walk for peace in Mindanao, organized by the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light headed by its chairman Man Hee Lee, South Korean war veteran turned peace advocate; and Nam Hee Kim, of the International Women's Peace Group, and Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Salazar was held in Zamboanga City on August 11.   
The march participated by thousands of people that included faculty and students of the Western Mindanao State University (WEMSU) was made in an effort to promote peace and compassion to the world drew various civil and religious groups, Muslim and Christian residents.

They marched from City Hall in downtown Zamboanga to the Paseo del Mar Park, about a kilometer away where the organizers and Mayor Maria Isabelle Salazar signed a peace covenant.

Joon Park, the organizer’s media liaison, said the event “focused on fostering a culture of peace both within communities and internationally with a hope of bringing about the cessation of war.”

“As an advocate of peace, Chairman Mr. Man Hee Lee, has been making peace trips all around the world and endeavoring to bear substantive fruitions of peace despite his old age.”

“Last time, during the Mindanao Peace Agreement, Chairman Lee was the driving force that brought the 40 year religious dispute between Islam and Catholic to an end. And this time, he has made his trip to the Philippines once again,” he said.

The Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization registered under the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and operating out of Seoul, South Korea. It aims to create positive and lasting change internationally through uniting communities around the world and supports the development of communities through cultural, volunteer, and youth activities.
