NPA Group of Sarangani on the brink of extinction

NSFA, PANACAN, Davao City, 02March 2015 – “The NPA bandit group in Alabel, Sarangani Province is on the brink of extinction or dissipation.”
This was the statement of the Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command, Lieutenant General Aurelio Baladad, after a certain Juvani Angos a.k.a. Juvan, a member of Guerilla Front (GF) 75, surrendered to the 73IB under Lieutenant Colonel Felix Ronnie B Babacon on February 26, 2015 at Brgy Datu Danwata, Malita, Davao Occidental. This was followed by the recovery of one M16 rifle in a nearby Barangay Manuel Peralta on the same date.
The 18-year old Juvani is the 11th from the bandit group to surrender after they were encountered by the elements of 73IB on February 16, 2015 at Sitio Tugal, Brgy Datal Anggas, Alabel, Sarangani province that resulted to seven NPAs killed and the capture of nine high powered firearms.
“The group suffered an even greater setback because of five of the seven who were killed are NPA leaders. Moreover, according to reports from civilians in the area, the actual numbers of killed NPAs have reached 13, following the subsequent encounters that occurred during the pursuit operations.
“If we add this 13 who were killed, to the 11 who surrendered, that’s already 24, which is the big reduction in the number of NPA bandits from GF 75. We are also expecting more surrenderees after receiving several surrender feelers,” Col Romeo Brawner Jr., Spokeperson of the Eastern Mindanao Command, justified further.
The surrenderees are now being processed for their eventual enrolment in the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) of Sarangani Province. Moreover, other surrenderees from Davao del Sur will also avail same program by the CLIP of Province of Davao del Sur.
Earlier, in the afternoon February 25, 2015, two NPA members from Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur; Fernan Gapa Miguel a.k.a. Diego and JimbertGapa Miguel a.k.a. Jeter, surrendered to the 73IB at Brgy Carahayan, Jose Abad Santos, Davao del Sur. The surrender was made possible through the intervention of barangay and local officials and the government troops.
In a report made by LTC RONNIE B BABAC, the two surrenderees belong to GF 71 who were also involved in the encounter of 73IB on January 24, 2015 in Brgy Upper Suyan, Malapatan, Sarangani Province.
