The Armed Forces of the Philippines condemns the criminal acts of the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels of planting roadside bombs in a busy road along Los Arcos, Prosperidad, Agusan Del Sur in the evening of March 14, 2015 which led to the death of three soldiers included among the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion.
Our soldiers were travelling in a convoy composed of two KM250 and three KM450 trucks were on their way to respond to a reported presence of NPAs intimidating an Indigenous People community in the area, when they were landmined and ambushed by undetermined number of NPA bandits.
Five other soldiers were also wounded in the incident. Their identities are being withheld pending the notification of their families.
These atrocities have proven that the New People’s Army have become a dreaded bandit gang that also attacks government forces.
These atrocities is a clear violation of UN Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW or CCWC), particularly the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects. The convention covers landmines, booby traps, incendiary weapons, blinding laser weapons and clearance of explosive remnants of war.
This attack is also punishable by Philippine laws that in line with the International Humanitarian Law.
We will conduct investigations on the matter in order to bring the suspects to justice.
