‘Duterte must pass BBL under his presidency’ – Atty. Marohomsalic

Cotabato City – Lawyer Nasser Marohomsalic, Convenor of the Philippine Council for Islam and Democracy (PCID) said in an interview on May 10 by ABS-CBN DZMM Radyo Patrol TeleRadyo that Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who leads the Presidential partial unofficial results of the recently-concluded synchronized election ‘to be faithful to his words in supporting the passage of Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL)’.

“Kailangan makatotohanan sya sa suporta nya sa BBL, sinabi nya yan and so the Muslims went to him dahil doon,” said Atty. Marohomsalic.

In his (Duterte) campaign sorties, “Between majority Christians and minority Bangsamoro, he promised to pass the BBL at dapat maisakatuparan yun during his presidency”.

Marohomsalic explained that Muslims need both spiritual and material. He considers BBL as part of spiritual aspect of Bangsamoro Muslims.

“BBL is best formula for peace,” he stressed.

Marohomsalic further said that Duterte has not encountered opposition for BBL every time he mentioned it during his campaign as evidenced by majority of the Christians voted for him. “Which means in the hearts of Christian majority nandon yung longing for peace,” he added.

However, he pointed out that during the BBL deliberations in Congress, lawmakers have capitalized on the Mamapasapano incident as well as the issue on Abu Sayyaf Group to derail the passage of BBL.

The PCID convenor also believes that the peace process must continue and no other negotiations shall be undertaken as the Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro (FAB) and the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) were already in place. “The BBL is there and what is left to do is to finalize the passage of Bangsamoro Law,” Marohomsalic said.
