MANILA - When President Rodrigo Duterte delivers his State of the Nation
Address this Monday, his audience will be all ears to learn what he has
in mind about the situation of the country and where he intends to lead
this nation.

Presumptive incoming Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel:
Since he will be talking to Congress and to the nation, but, the venue being a legislative setting, I am hoping to hear some priority legislative suggestions from the President – the shift to federalism, for instance. I am sure he will also mention his all-out war against drugs, crime and corruption. Parang reportorial siguro iyon, unless may idea siya ng (It will probably be somewhat reportorial, unless he has ideas for) new law or policy for which he needs the cooperation of Congress. It's the Federalism issue that I am waiting to hear about, and I am hoping he will include income tax reforms.
Presumptive outgoing Senate President Franklin Drilon:
I expect to hear from President Duterte how he wants Congress to assist and help him in fulfilling his administration's 10-point socioeconomic agenda, which he had previously announced. In his 10-point socioeconomic agenda are measures to improve the social protection programs, which include the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program – the 4Ps or the conditional cash transfer. We would like to hear how he intends to improve this particular social-protection program. We also heard him a promise to our policemen that they'll have a minimum of P50,000 monthly salary. The policemen are looking forward to this increase, given their role of fulfilling President Duterte's
anti-criminality campaign. We
would like to hear how the President intends to fund this P50,000 salary
for our policemen. We would also like to hear the plans of the
President on the increase of the floor pension of the Social Security
System retirees. Again, this is part of the social protection program.
Senator Vicente Sotto:
I expect it to be short but precise. Finally we will her about the dangerous drugs problem, it was never mentioned in the last six SONAS.
Senator Nancy Binay:
Talakayin sana ni President Duterte ang mga priority legislation na magbibigay ginhawa sa ating mga kababayan tulad ng (We hope he tackles priority measures that will alleviate the hardship of our countrymen, such as) tax relief, job security and other economic reforms. The President should clearly state his legislative agenda to Congress that will bring about meaningful change.
Senator Joel Villanueva:
I am positive that President Rodrigo Duterte will hold on to his promise to the Filipino people that he will deliver change. And I will fully support the positive changes this government will champion. Among the key changes that we are hoping to push is being able to address the plight of Filipino workers, here and abroad. I hope that our workers' welfare will be a focus of the President in his SONA. I am excited to hear the President present his agenda and vision for the coming year and the years to come.
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian:
President Digong has been very consistent with fighting crime and suppressing illegal drugs. But the core problem of the country remains. Poverty has not significantly gone down in the last 10 years. I would like to know the new administration's anti-poverty strategy and timeline. This issue has not been very clear to the our people.
Senator Risa Hontiveros:
I would like to hear more about President Duterte's plan of action on anti-contractualization and his more recent statement against demolition of squatter settlements without adequate relocation safety nets. We've heard the commitment; I am now eager to hear the hows – the nuts and bolts. I'm also looking forward to hear his plan of action for the coconut farmers and the utilization of the coco levy and how he intends to move forward with federalism.
