Army launches relief operations for Marawi

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army, in partnership with local non-governmental organizations, launched a relief operation program for Marawi on June 13, 2017 here.

The Junior Chamber International, San Juan Dambana Chapter spearheaded the #OgopMarawi in partnerhip with the Civil Military Operations Group (CMOG) and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA). Ogop is a local word in Marawi for help, thus this project aims to aid the internally displaced people (IDPs) and give morale support to soldiers deployed in Marawi City.

#OgopMarawi is accepting donations in kind or in cash for its three sub-programs: disaster relief drive for displaced families, educational and community support for children through the Start Up project, and morale support and care packages for soldiers through the Project Shoebox.

During the launching of the program headed by Maj. Gen. Roberto M. Arevalo Chief of Staff of the Philippine Army, boxes of relief goods, clothes, hygiene kits and school supplies have been turned over to the Philippine Army by the partner NGOs.

The donors may participate in Project Shoebox by filling an empty shoebox with the following:

· 1 t-shirt
· 1 face towel
· 1 toothbrush
· 1 toothpaste
· 1 shampoo
· 1 shaver
· 1 alcohol
· 1 bath soap
· On a piece of paper, write a short personal message that will boost the morale of the soldier who will receive the box.

Participants of the #OgopMarawi may send their donations to the following drop off stations: Logistics Support Group, Army Support Command, and CMOG, Philippine Army here in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, and in Strata Views, 306, P. Guevarra St., San Juan City.#
