Gov't assures proper transition of Padilla as outgoing nego chief

Manila—Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Teresita Quintos Deles on Tuesday said that there will be a proper and smooth transition in the leadership of the government peace panel in talks with the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army/National Democratic Front in light of chief negotiator Alexander Padilla's recent appointment as President and CEO of PhilHealth.

Deles explained that “Chair Padilla’s appointment to Philhealth does not come as a surprise.”

“We have agreed that he will stay on to ensure a smooth transition. The rest of the panel remains in place and the work continues to proceed."

To date, the government is currently developing a “new approach” for the negotiations as a sign of its continuing commitment to deliver a peaceful resolution of the armed conflict in the country after it has yet again reached an impasse.

Confident to deliver what they have started, Deles assured that, alongside Padilla, “the four panel members are all are equally competent to do what needs to be done.”
