Continuing joint LEO intensifies

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao — As the continuing law enforcement operations (LEO) of the AFP and PNP intensifies against the lawless group, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), the 8th Marine Battalion under Task Force Central clashed with BIFF at around 4:00 in the afternoon last March 10, 2015.
The government forces were on clearing operation when they encountered around 70 BIFF members who were equipped with high powered firearms in Brgy Pusao, Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
As a result of the operation, about 20 BIFF were reported killed from the incident and an estimated 30 were wounded.
The government suffered casualties during the intense firefight which ended past 12 midnight, killing two soldiers and wounding two others. The families of the deceased were already informed of the incident.
Task Force Central Commander Major General Edmundo R. Pangilinan extends his deepest sympathy to families of the fallen soldiers who risked their lives during the heavy fighting with the bandits. Remains of the fallen soldiers are now being taken care of at the 6ID morgue.
Maj General Pangilinan assures the public that the firefight will not spill over to other areas of engagement and said that JTF Central will protect the civilians at all cost.
On March 11, fighting erupts at the same area between the operating Marines troops and the rebel Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.
