Poor Families in BARMM Receive Livelihood Assistance from BTA

Cotabato City-Fourteen (14) poor families in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) were the recipients of the on-going project on livelihood assistance of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) through the initiative of the two (2) Members of Parliament (MP) Honorable Mohagher Iqbal and Honorable Zul Qarneyn Abas, M.D.

“The beneficiaries of the project are from the poor families in identified barangays of various municipalities in Maguindanao province,” said Alimodin Pinamaloy, BTA Chief of Staff under MP Dr. Abas, citing the report presented by the Mindanao People’s Care Foundation (MPCFI), also known as Katiyakap Foundation last September 2, 2019.

The MPCFI was the partner foundation of the said BTA members in the identification of the recipients of the said livelihood assistance.

“In particular, the livelihood assistance was in the form of goat raising.  We provided each of the beneficiaries four heads of goats (1 buck/male goat and 3 does/female goats) with appropriate training intervention conducted at the MPCFI Training Center in Cotabato City on June 19-20, 2019,” Pinamaloy said.

MPCFI also said, “in order to ensure the long-term success of the project in the grassroots communities, we conducted community organizing training for our pool of coordinators held at the same venue on May 23, 2019”.

“Our collaboration with MPCFI ensures that the beneficiaries of the project are the most deserving families and individuals,” one of the staff of MP Dr. Abas said.

“One very significant highlight of the assistance was that many among the beneficiaries heartily expressed thanks and gratitude to MP Iqbal and MP Dr. Abas for being the recipients of government project for the first time in their life,” said Fahad Taup, one of the coordinators trained on community organizing.

“Big thanks to the BTA through MP Iqbal and MP Dr. Abas and the Bangsamoro Government because I’ve been given, for the first time, the opportunity to become a recipient of a government project,” said another beneficiary who asked identity not to be revealed in this publication.

“I think this is the best government, the Bangsamoro Government, for it is a government that justly caters to the needs and sentiments of the poor” said Fahad Reyes, Media-Communications Officer of MPCFI, quoting the statements of one of the beneficiaries during his field visit last September 4, 2019.

MP Mohagher Iqbal, a member of the Central Committee of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), is known for being a veteran negotiator as Head of the Peace Negotiating Team of the MILF for several years.  He was the Chairman of the Peace Implementing Panel during the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. In concurrent capacity, he is also holding the position of Minister of Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education-BARMM.

MP Zul Qarneyn Abas, MD is a health practitioner and an hard working peace advocate.  He is known for his utmost efforts with deep concern in empowering the grassroots communities, particularly the poor families and individuals.  He has developed the BDA’s Youth Development Program which seeks to transform and strengthen the younger generation of the Bangsamoro as agents of holistic peace and development. In concurrent capacity, he is also holding a position of Deputy Minister of Ministry of Health-BARMM.

The two MPs look forward to continue the said project during their term as Members of Parliament.
