Gensan Madaris student body organizations federate
The student body organizations of Madaris (plural for Madrasah) in
General Santos City formed a federation that will serve as the voice of
the learners of the 40 traditional Islamic schools in town.
The newly-organized citywide group of Madaris students shall be called Federation of General Santos City Madaris Student Body Organizations.
City Mayor’s Office-Indigenous Cultural Communities Affairs Division (CMO-ICCAD), the unit under the city government of General Santos City, facilitated the formation of the SBO federation held at the NCMF Social Hall last Saturday (Oct 20).
Prince Cedie Salisipan Duran, the elected Federation president, said they will do their best to serve the interest of the Madaris learners. “We will try to replicate to other Madaris the good practices of active Madaris SBOs,” he pointed out.
CMO-ICCAD head Jocelyn Lambac Kanda said Madaris student leaders could play important role in helping the development of Madaris like maintaining cleanliness and participating in the Brigada Madrasah before Madaris classes start every school year.
“The Madaris SBOs are also actively involved in the conduct of Musabaqa (literary and sports competitions) in their respective Madrasa like assisting in different events, cleanliness, and in food preparation and distribution,” she said.
She said CMO-ICCAD will facilitate capability-building activities that will enhance the leadership potential of the Madaris SBO officers.
“They are now ready to take the challenge and work to improve and sustain the gains of our efforts in providing relevant and responsive education thru the Madaris education and in accessing government services --- equally for all!,” Lambac-Kanda added.
