Youth Calls on President Duterte, Congress for the Extension of Bangsamoro Transition Period until 2025

DATU PAGLAS, MAGUINDANAO, (February 28, 2021) ------- In an activity held today in this town, various youth organizations in Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat provinces called on President Rodrigo Duterte, and Congress for the extension of the Bangsamoro transition period until 2025.

“The Political Tract and the Normalization Tract are some of the most important provisions of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) that are vital in the implementation of the peace agreement”, said Hamana Sinangka, REMACADEMY College Secretary.

“The Bangsamoro transition period needs another three-year extension until 2025 to fully implement the services and programs of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao that were hampered by the corona virus-19 pandemic”, Sinangkad added.

Rudy S. Lumapinet, representative of United Youth for Peace and Development (UNYPAD), said “You know the Government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front only agreed for three-year (3) transition for the BARMM, and that is not enough to fulfill all the provisions of the BOL
thus, we urge the Government of the Philippines through congress to extend the transition, so that the youth can live a peaceful and productive life.” 

“It is highly needed that the Bangsamoro transition period be extended so that we can no longer experience conflict. Once there is war, the youth are the most affected”, said Sheikh Mohammad Siddiq Saeed.

“Unity and cooperation among us are needed to convince congress to extend the BARMM Transition Period until 2025,” Siddiq Saeed added.

Leaders of organizations such as, the SK Federation of Datu Paglas, UNYPAD-Maguindanao Cluster 3, UNYPAD Datu Paglas Chapter, Bangsamoro United Brotherhood, Maguindanao Youth for Change Association, Muslim Youth Brotherhood, United Youth Action Group, Kalilintad Peacebuilding Institute, Bangsamoro Communication Network-Damakling Chapter and Bunawan IP’s Active Youth Movement read their manifestos supporting the extension of the Bangsamoro transition period from 2022 to 2025.

The different youth leaders signed a Joint Statement of Support before the activity ended.

The Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro is thefinal peace agreement signed between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front on March 27, 2014.

The Bangsamoro Organic Law, officially called the Organic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, was passed into law in 2018 that replaced the ARMM.
