Philippine Army hosts observance of National Heroes Day
FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army
hosted the observance of National Heroes Day at the Tomb of the Unknown
Soldier, Libingan ng Mga Bayani today, August 30, 2021.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Guest of Honor and
Speaker, delivered his message through video. “With pride and joy, we
honor the noble sacrifices of our ancestors who fought to liberate our
country and establish the thriving democracy that we have today. As we
overcome the COVID19 pandemic, let us honor our modern-day heroes, our
medical front liners, and our essential workers who sacrificed [their]
lives, comfort, and security to secure our fellow Filipinos,” he said.
Representing the President was Executive Secretary
Salvador Medialdea who led the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremonies
as well as the opening of an exhibit called “Mukha ng Kabayanihan sa
Ikalawang Digmaang Pandaigdig” that features Filipino heroes and their
contributions during World War II.
The Philippine Army honors the country’s forbearers who
bravely fought for independence and the present-day Filipino heroes who
risked their lives for the peace and safety of the nation.
“May we all learn from the valiant examples of the past
and present heroes and build on them to achieve a stronger future for
all,” added President Duterte.#
