AFP Chief reminds soldiers to deepen understanding, realize peace

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Jose Faustino Jr reminded soldiers to strengthen their support to the government’s peace initiatives during the Peace Symposium Wednesday, September 29.

The Peace Symposiu co-organized by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) and the AFP Peace and Development Office is aimed at instilling awareness on and enhancing understanding of the various peace initiatives in support to the government’s peace agenda.

“I strongly implore every participant here today to deepen your understanding and appreciation of our government’s initiatives and advocacies for the peace process and may your insights and perspectives on the matter broaden as it will amplify your support to these initiatives,” Lt. Gen. Faustino Jr said in a statement read by Vice Admiral Erick Kagaoan, The Deputy Chief of Staff.

The Symposium featured three talks beginning with OPAPP’s Deputy for Operations USec Isidro Purisima who gave an overview and provided updates on the different peace tables and programs of the government.

This was followed by updates on the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro which featured discussions on the political track and normalization track provided by Director Ishmael Bahjin of the Government Implementing Panel; and Dir Farrah Grace Naparan Chief of Staff of OPAPP’s Normalization Division, respectively.

Lastly, Director Maria Carla Munsayac-Villarta, Head of OPAPP’s Localized Peace Engagement Department, provided an outlook on the Localized Peace Engagements and OPAPP’s partnership with the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in implementing the nationally directed, orchestrated, and supervised localized negotiations.

As the Guest of Honor and Speaker, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr, commended the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the rest of the security sector for their “hard work, determination, and selflessness.”

“I am very proud to be working side by side with you. Thank you for responding to our call of duty,” Secretary Galvez Jr said.

“Today’s AFP-OPAPP Peace Symposium 2021 with the theme, ‘Healing as One Nation; Recovering as a Better Generation’ cannot be more opportune and timely as it paves the way for us to discuss critically and deliberately the most recent mechanisms of our government’s peace initiatives and the role of the AFP in this noble endeavor,” Lt. Gen. Faustino Jr said.

“We earnestly aspire to establish an enduring framework for lasting peace and sustainable progress for the entire nation. For every community cleared, for every socio-economic project that we help implement, we get closer and closer to accomplish our mandated mission,” Lt. Gen. Faustino Jr concluded.///
