PBBM leads AFP’s 87th-anniversary rites
Excellency
Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr leads the 87th founding anniversary rites of the
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Monday, December 19 at the
Lapu-Lapu Grandstand here.
As part of the ceremony, the military highlighted some of its game-changing assets as part of its modernization program. Philippine Air Force's FA-50 jets fly above the Camp Aguinaldo ground in a high-speed opener for the pass-in review and parade of ground followed by fly-by contingents.
The fly-by contingent is composed of four A-29 Super Tucano, ten SF-260, nine T-41, and three Cessna fixed-wing aircraft, followed by three Black Hawks, one B412, one S-76A, one T129 Atak, one AH-1S Cobra, three AW109, one R44, and one BO 105 comprising the rotary aircraft group.
Various military equipment was also on static display on-site, featuring an AW159 anti-submarine helicopter, a T-129 Atak helicopter, a ground-based air defense system, mobile command and control vehicles, armored mortar carriers, a 155 self-propelled howitzer, and a mobile kitchen.
In his message, the president cited the AFP’s performance of its mission, both in the conduct of military operations to address threats and in supporting the government’s fight against natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.
"For years, growth in the region has been held back by the presence of communist terrorists, lawless elements who hamper the delivery of government services and infrastructure development. Through your efforts, and the support of other law enforcement agencies, we now see a significant decline in their numbers. You have helped to pave the way for development, to foster for communities to live in peace," President Marcos Jr said.
The President likewise recognized AFP personnel who showed exemplary service to the country for the past year. Six military personnel, two civilian human resources, and two ROTC cadet officers received military awards and plaques of recognition.
On his part, the Chief of Staff, AFP LtGen Bartolome Vicente O Bacarro assured the Commander-in-Chief of the AFP’s continued dedication and professionalism in service to the nation. "You can count on the same zeal and commitment from the AFP in ensuring the safety, integrity, and security of our country."
The Chief of Staff also recognized the contribution of all AFP personnel in accomplishing the AFP's mission.
"We all witnessed that the AFP accomplishes an inordinate amount of good work. All of these said I would like to emphasize that the AFP’s accomplishments were not possible if not for the dedication and commitment of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and women, and marines. I tip my hat to our gallant personnel, as the recognition and glory belong to them, the heart, soul, and spirit of our institution," LtGen Bacarro said. /// (Photos by SSgt Ambay/PAO, AFP)
