Two Misuari Followers Killed in Encounter; 4 Firearms Recovered

Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City—Two members of the Moro National Liberation Front-Misuari Faction were killed in an encounter today, October 10, with troops of the 23rd Marine Company in Brgy Kasanyangan, Zamboanga City.
Ten days since the clearing operations started in September 30, said troops were fired upon by the two rebels at around 08:20 this morning despite repeated calls for surrender. Two M14 rifles were recovered following the short firefight.
 Also this morning, soldiers of the 44th Infantry Battalion conducting clearing operations in Sta. Catalina recovered one M-16 rifle in a drainage canal and an AK-47 while scouring the mangrove areas of said barangay.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines will continue the clearing operations in support to the Philippine National Police following the Zamboanga crisis that lasted from September 9 to 28. The military’s clearing operations will pave the way for the normalization Zamboanga City and its people.
 The precise military operations resulted in the neutralization of 500 MNLF members (208 killed; 24 surrendered; 270 captured/apprehended). Twenty soldiers also lost their lives along with 177 who were wounded. Among the hostages, 195 were rescued, two were killed and nine were wounded.
