CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City –
"If you want a Medal for Valor and you need the opportunity to earn it,
volunteer and join the fight against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and
other terrorist groups," was both AFP Chief General Eduardo Año’s
challenge and invitation to Soldiers, Airmen, Sailors and Marines.
This drew applause from uniformed and
non-uniformed personnel present during his talk Tuesday 24 January at
Camp Navarro, Upper Calarian, Zamboanga City – the Headquarters of the
Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) which is at the forefront of the
fight against the ASG.
General Año’s call reverberated to all
members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines all over the country "to
contribute in this national effort and AFP priority of ending the menace
the terror groups sow in the hearts of our people."
"We will not allow them foothold here in
the Philippines. We have to 'nip the bud' in six months before they can
ever thrive in our country. We cannot afford a protracted war," said
General Año.
General Año has been moving around major AFP Camps according to Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo who is with the AFP Chief.
"Before going to WESMINCOM again, this
time for a Troop Visit, he first landed at Western Command (WESCOM)
Headquarters where he also addressed the uniformed and non-uniformed
personnel – Defenders and Patriots of the West Frontier.
"General Año was given a Brief on their
respective Campaign Plans implementing the AFP's Develpment Support and
Security Plan "Kapayapaan". Lieutenant General Raul del Rosario did the
briefing called "Matawan Malaya pang Palawan" in WESCOM while Major
General Carlito Galvez, Jr. did for WESMINCOM.
"The AFP Chief will be given a brief
dubbed "Kalinaw Sidlakang Mindanao" (Peace in Eastern Mindanao) by
Lieutenant General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, Commander of Eastern Mindanao
Command (EASTMINCOM) as to how his Command will implement Development
Support and Security Plan (DSSP) Kapayapaan. General Año visits that
headquarters in Camp Panacan in Davao City Wednesday 25 January 2017.
"But while General Año is mustering the
support of the men and women of the AFP in this focused combat
operations backed by intelligence and non-lethal operations and
activities, he continues to harness the support of the populace. Indeed,
the fight against terror groups and spoilers of the peace process can
be best won with the abiding support of the people,” said Colonel
Arevalo.
"Supporters and sympathizers have to
heed the higher call – which is to put premium to security and
development for the good of the greater number," Colonel Arevalo
concluded.
