Cotabato City- President Duterte is optimistic that the new
Bangsamoro autonomous region would reflect the true sentiment of the
Moro community in the south, said a report by Manila Bulletin on March
25.
According to the report, the President recognized that the law creating the new autonomous region would be implemented “in the days to come” following its recent ratification.
The inauguration of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), postponed several times is set on March 29. It will be held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex, located at the 32-hectare land owned by then Office of the Regional Commissioner (ORC).
“We have achieved something already. We have ratified the BOL (Bangsamoro Organic Law). It’s going to be implemented in the days to come,” Duterte said in his visit to Cagayan de Oro City last Sunday.
“Truly, as we agreed with them. I hope that when it is implemented, initially it would reflect the true sentiments of our Moro brothers, mga Maguindanao,” he added as quoted by Manila Bulletin.
Last February, the President called on the interim government of the Bangsamoro region to oversee the three-year transition period to the best of their ability and work for the interest of the people.
He urged the BARMM led by Ahod Balawag Ebrahim, popularly known as Al Haj Murad Ebrahim to help promote the rule of law and good governance in the new autonomous region.
Al Haj Murad is interim chief minister of the Bangsamoro caretaker government until the new regional leaders are elected in 2022.
“Always work for the best interest and welfare, not only of the Bangsamoro people but every Filipino who live in that region. I trust that you will oversee the transition period to the best of your abilities, especially in the decommissioning of firearms and former combatants,” he said. (Source: Manila Bulletin 3-25-19)
