Army troops skip two meals for Mindanao quake victims:

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army is set to give donations from every soldier’s meal allowances to aid the victims of the recent earthquakes that hit Mindanao.

The endeavor is an addition to Army’s on-going Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response operations in the province of Cotabato and other affected areas in the said region.
Every donation will be deducted from each Army personnel’s subsistence allowance for the month of November, which is equivalent to two meals. Other contributions will also be accepted either in cash or in kind.

After conducting rescue and evacuation operations, Army troopers also worked together with government units and other stakeholders to provide the residents with temporary shelters and relief goods.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council reports a total of 23 deaths, 618 individuals injured, and two missing cases after the three earthquakes struck regions 11 and 12. The disaster also left around 30,000 people displaced from their homes.p

“The donations will be allocated to aid the individuals and families affected by the disaster. This command initiative is just a part of our response to our mandate to serve the Filipino people and we eagerly encourage everyone to volunteer or extend support to help our fellow Filipinos in need,” said the Army's Acting Spokesperson Col. Patricio Ruben Amata.#
