CA Confirms 4-Star Nomination of AFP Chief, Promotions of 29 Senior Officers

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Commission on Appointments (CA) confirmed the nomination of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gilbert I. Gapay to the rank of four-star General on Wednesday at the Senate of the Philippines, Pasay City.

Senator Panfilo Lacson said that the Commission on Appointments' Committee on National Defense found that Lieutenant General Gapay and 29 other Senior Officers are all fit and qualified for the ranks given to them.

The CA confirmed the ad interim appointment of Lieutenant Generals Franco Nemesio M. Gacal and Jose C. Faustino Jr. It also approved the promotions of Major Generals Gilbert F. Saret and Alfredo V. Rosario Jr.

Also confirmed were the promotions of Army Colonels Jaime R. Datuin, Ma. Noel T. Tolentino, Franc Y. Mananquil, Enerito D. Lebeco and Rolando M. Paredes; and Marine Colonels Joel M. Lazo, Stephen L. Cabanlet, Dennis F. Hernandez, Hilario C. De Vera Jr., Zaldy A. Dioneda, Joseph S. Tobias, Filomeno P. Carreon, and Emerson M. Delos Santos.

Navy Captains Ariel S. Palisoc, Mateo G. Carido, Norsal D. Dimaporo, Jose Rene P. Nartates, Romel T. Marcos, Stephen A. Tuballa, Levi C. Carane, John E. De Villa, and Edwina Lucresia M. Taylor were also confirmed by the Commission.
The CA likewise approved the promotions of Colonels Eisen M Perdido and Rogelio Jerico V. Bonagua from the Dental Service, and Colonel Allan V. Gulapa from the Nurse Corps.

The Commission previously confirmed the ad interim appointments of 15 other Generals and Senior Officers on August 24.

The promotion of new Generals and Senior Officers indicate not only the recognition of their excellent service to military but more importantly the bigger responsibilities they have to hold in order to help attain the AFP’s mission
The AFP accords premium importance in the promotion of its members which is an essential component of the military’s Morale and Welfare program.

“I am optimistic that this milestone in our military service will bring us further motivation as we continue to dedicate ourselves in the service of our country and people.
