Three Abu Sayyaf Group members yield in Basilan

Three more Abu Sayyaf members and one of their supporters surrendered and yielded their firearms at the headquarters of the Army’s 18th Infantry Battalion (18IB) headquarters in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan on November 18, 2021.

Their surrender was due to efforts of Joint Task Group Unit (JITU) under Joint Task Force (JTF) Basilan; operating troops of 18IB; and the local government units of Ungkaya Pukan and Tipo-tipo.

The surrendered ASG members will undergo psychosocial debriefing to prepare them for societal reintegration. They will also receive livelihood training and aid under the government’s “Program Against Violent Extremism (PAVE) for Peace” which is designed to holistically address violent extremism.

It can be recalled that 13 ASG members surrendered to Army troops in Barangay Bon-Bon, Patikul, Sulu on November 15, 2021.

Army Commanding General and concurrent AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Andres Centino, in his earlier guidance, has ordered troops to step-up intelligence operations and capabilities to neutralize state enemies.
