DILG to award 29 BARMM LGUs Seal of Good Local Governance
COTABATO CITY – The Ministry of Local Government (MILG) announced on Tuesday that the Department of Local Government (DILG) had named twenty-nine local government units (LGUs) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as recipients of the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for their “excellence, transparency, and accountability in local governance,” the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government (MILG)
A report by Philippine News Agency (PNA) said on Tuesday, that the recognition follows a rigorous national validation process involving 730 LGUs, with results endorsed to the Council of Good Local Governance for final approval.
Among the 714 LGUs approved as passers, the 29 from BARMM marked a historic achievement for the region, showcasing its commitment to strong governance, the PNA report said.
The SGLG program, established by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), highlights LGUs that excel in such areas as transparency, accountability, disaster preparedness, and peace and order. This year’s awardees consist of 41 provinces, 96 cities, and 577 municipalities across the Philippines, the re[port added.
In BARMM, the awardees are Basilan: Lamitan City, Maluso, and Sumisip; Lanao del Sur: Butig, Calanogas, Kapatagan, and Taraka; Maguindanao del Norte: Barira, Buldon, Datu Blah Sinsuat, Kabuntalan, Matanog, Parang, Sultan Kudarat, and Upi;
Maguindanao del Sur: Ampatuan, Abdullah Sangki, Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, Datu Paglas, Datu Piang, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Gen. Salipada Pendatun, Guindulungan, Paglat, Shariff Aguak, South Upi, Sultan sa Barongis, Talayan, and the province of Maguindanao itself.
Minister Sha Elijah B. Dumama-Alba of MILG-BARMMwas elated and praised the awardees for their exemplary governance, which she said reflects the region’s growing commitment to effective public service.
“These LGUs have demonstrated excellence in governance, aligning with BARMM’s broader objectives of promoting development and good governance,” Dumama-Alba said.
BARMM Chief Minister Ahod B. Ebrahim also commended the LGUs, citing their success as a testament to the Bangsamoro government’s vision for a progressive and peaceful region, the PNA report also said.
The official awards ceremony is scheduled to take place next month at the Manila Hotel, the report concluded.
