Philippine Army Intensifies Disaster Response Amid Tropical Depression “Dante”, Enhanced Southwest Monsoon

FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – Philippine Army troops and reservists are stepping up Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) response efforts for communities affected by the combined effects of Tropical Depression "Dante" and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) across Metro Manila and Luzon.

Since July 21 to date, The Philippine Army organized two Light Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams, deployed four military trucks and six rubber boats to rescue approximately 70 stranded residents in Barangay Santo Domingo, Quezon City. Simultaneously, another USAR team rescued six individuals trapped by rising waters in Tumana, Marikina.

In total, 15 HADR teams comprising 148 personnel from the 2nd, 5th, and 7th Infantry Divisions are actively conducting rescue and relief operations within their areas of responsibility. Meanwhile, a nationwide standby force of 593 HADR teams—totaling 4,434 soldiers, reservists, and Civilian Active Auxiliary members remains ready to respond to emergencies.

The Philippine Army is committed to protecting and assisting Filipinos affected by these severe weather conditions. Army troops will continue to work closely with local government units and volunteers to ensure timely rescue and relief efforts to mitigate the effects of the calamity.
