Army troops arrest Tanto in Masbate
FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The intelligence units of the
Philippine Army arrested Army Reservist Vhon Martin Tanto inside his
relative’s residence in Barangay Poblacion East, Milagros, Masbate at
around 11:40 a.m. on Friday, July 29.
Army Chief, Lt. Gen. Eduardo M. Año said that the arrest was the result of the intensive research and surveillance of the Army’s counter-intelligence units, with the help of the 9th Infantry Battalion, the local police and concerned citizens.
“We used the Army’s resources to locate Tanto and bring him to the proper authority,” said Año.
Tanto was immediately brought at the 9th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Masbate and was escorted to the Masbate Provincial Police Office. He was then brought to the Regional Police Office in Legaspi City. Eventually, he will be turned over to the Manila Police District.
“The arrest proves that we do not tolerate any wrongdoings or illegal activities committed by any of our members,” said Año. “We do not want to betray the trust and confidence of the public on the Army. We will continue to pursue justice,” he added.
Año also added that because of this incident, the Philippine Army will be more strict in the screening of would-be reservists of the Philippine Army. #
