9,588 BARMM health workers vaccinated for Covid-19-MOH Minister Dr. Latiph

COTABATO CITY –BARMM Ministry of Health Dr. Bashary Latiph disclosed that about 9,588 health workers in the BARMM have been inoculated against the coronavirus disease, the region’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported Friday.

Dr. Latiph said the number comprises 65 percent of the total 14,750 health personnel belonging to the A1 category in the region, a PNA report said.

“Vaccination on our health workers is still ongoing,” he told reporters here in an interview on April 23.

Included in the A1 priority group are workers in front line health services from hospitals, isolation and quarantine facilities, and government-owned primary care-based facilities, the PNA report also said.

Among the BARMM provinces, he said Sulu recorded the highest vaccination coverage of about 93 percent of its total number of healthcare workers, or 2,579 out of 2,777 personnel.

Lanao del Sur trailed at 72 percent, Maguindanao (64 percent), Tawi-Tawi (51 percent), and Basilan (39 percent).

Latiph said the vaccination in the region started on the first week of March for the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.

“A week later, vaccination also commenced in the island provinces of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, while frontline workers in Basilan received their vaccine jabs starting March 15,” he added.

Dr. Latiph said that BARMM has 281 active Covid-19 cases as of April 23. (PNA)
