MILF Chairman thanks International Monitoring Team Malaysian Contingent 15

Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim thanked the Malaysian Contingent 15 of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) during their an exit call to the leadership of the Front on Sunday (April 4) at Camp Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

Chairman Ebrahim, also the Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro Parliament, also expressed his gratitude to other contingents, Brunei and Japan, for their support to the Bangamoro people.

He also underscored that the services of the IMT is one of the most important mechanisms of the entire peace process.

The occasion marked the culmination of the yearlong tour of duty as peace monitors of the 15th batch of Malaysian IMT contingents which has been helping the Bangsamoro peace process to succeed.

MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, together with his subordinates, welcomed Major General Dato’ Muhammad Anwar Bin Abdullah, the Head of Mission of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) Mindanao Batch 15.

Head of Mission Major General Abdullah also thanked the MILF leadership. He also shared his experiences in conducting various activities and peace dialogues.

The objective of the IMT is to monitor the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of the Philippines and the MILF of 22 June, 2001 and its implementing guidelines on the Security Aspect of 7 August 2001 and the Implementing Guidelines on the Humanitarian Rehabilitation and Development Aspects of 7 May 2002 and Agreement on the Civilian Protection Component of the IMT of 28 October 2009.
Other contingents who served as members of the IMT were from Indonesia who joined in 2011 and Norway in 2010.  

The area of coverage of the IMT includes Maguindanao, Lanao Region, Davao Region, Zamboanga peninsula, island provinces, Socsksargen, and Cotabato City where its main office is located. 

Observers noted that the presence of the IMT significantly reduced the incidents of armed confrontations between the government troops and the MILF fighters. (Source Office of the MILF Chairman)
