The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) on Monday awarded one-time scholarship to Standard Madrasah Curriculum (SMC) learners and distributed cash assistance to performing schools and those schools affected by the Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Paeng.
In a statement posted by the MBHTE on its Facebook Page, it said that 8,318 SMC learners across the region will be given P3,000.00 each.
At least 468 identified performing schools received cash assistance. Of this number, 178 schools received P50,000.00 each; 106 schools received P25,000.00 each, and another 184 schools received P20,000.00 each.
The MBHTE said the assistance shall cover costs of repairs and maintenance of public school facilities under the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) Allotment Class with unit prices below P50,000.00 in accordance with Commission on audit (COA) Circular 004-2022 dated May 31, 2022.
“The scholarship, which is in cash form, is given to learners-in-crisis in any grade level and currently enrolled in accredited madrasah as identified by the school heads based on the selection criteria as provided in the ranking system provided by the MBHTE as per issued Regional Memorandum (RM) No. 896-B, series of 2022,” the MBHTE said.
Meanwhile, 210 schools affected by the STS Paeng were given financial aid worth P50,000.00 each for those classified as severely affected and P30,000.00 for those moderately affected.
MBHTE Minister Mohagher Iqbal said that “the Ministry exerts rigorous efforts to provide quality services and programs among all recognized Madrasah, both for its teachers and learners.”
STS Paeng hit the country and destroyed some schools in BARMM and the rest of the country on Oct. 29 last year.
