Army installs acting RESCOM commander
FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The Reserve Command, Philippine Army (RCPA) welcomed a new acting commander in a change of command and retirement ceremony presided by Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido at Camp Riego de Dios, Tanza, Cavite on January 20, 2025.
RCPA Deputy Commander Brig. Gen. Samuel B. Manzano took helm of the command in an acting capacity, succeeding Maj. Gen. Romulo A. Manuel Jr. who bowed out of service after a military career that spanned 38 years. “The Reserve Command, Philippine Army continues to be a significant contributor to the overall growth and development of the country and the Philippine Army,” Lt. Gen. Galido said in his keynote remarks during the ceremony. The Army Chief also lauded the outgoing leader for leading the Army’s reserve force in humanitarian assistance and disaster response operations and other nation-building activities such as nationwide blood donation drives.
It can be recalled that Brig. Gen. Manzano also led RCPA in an acting capacity in 2022. He previously served as the Deputy Regiment Commander and Chief of the Office of Ethical Standard and Public Accountability (OESPA) of the Light Reaction Regiment (LRR); Chief of Staff of the First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR); and Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, G2, of the Special Operations Command (SOCOM). He is a graduate of the Officer Preparatory Course and was commissioned in 1993.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Manuel is a member of the Philippine Military Academy "Bigkis-Lahi" Class of 1990. He also previously served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retiree Affairs (J9) and Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence (J2) all under the General Headquarters, Armed Forces of the Philippines; Commander of the Army Artillery Regiment; and Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans (G5) of the Philippine Army.
