Kampilan Division welcomes 43rd Commander
FORT BONIFACIO, Taguig City – The 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division welcomed its 43rd Commander in a Change of Command Ceremony led by Army Chief Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido at the division’s headquarters at Camp Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte on January 25, 2025.
Brig. Gen. Donald M. Gumiran took helm of the division, succeeding Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete who assumed as the AFP Western Mindanao Command (WESMINCOM) Chief in November 2024.
Lt. Gen. Galido, in his keynote remarks, called on Kampilan troopers to ensure the peace and progress in the division’s area of responsibility which mostly covers Central Mindanao. “We have to be transparent. We have to be deliberate. And more importantly, we have to communicate well,” the Army Chief emphasized. “We have to be solid in our quest for peace in this region. Peace cannot fail in this area,” he added.
Brig. Gen. Gumiran held various leadership roles prior to his new designation. He led the 7th Infantry Battalion, 38th Infantry Battalion, and the 6th Infantry Division Training School before taking helm of the North Cotabato-based 602nd Infantry Brigade for two years.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. Nafarrete led the 1st Infantry Division and the Joint Task Force Zampelan of WESMINCOM prior to his current designation. He also held various leadership posts in the 1101st Brigade, 11th Infantry Division; and the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3, AFP. Maj. Gen. Nafarrete is a graduate of the PMA "Bigkis-Lahi" Class of 1990
